Hot Springs Man goes to the Extreme to Raise Money for a Good Cause
Church youth groups are always looking for ways to raise money for the greater good.Former Youth Pastor, Brian Hughes, has taken matters into his own hands, or feet rather. Hughes plans to run 100 miles in a week, challenging sponsors to pledge a small amount for every mile he finishes.
The idea came to Hughes, who has been running for about five years, as he tried to generate activities for the National Park Assembly of God’s Catalyst group. “The whole idea was for our youth kids to do a mission trip. We want them to able to give to people without getting something in return,” he says.  Using the proceeds from the run, Catalyst will take its members to New Orleans, Louisiana this summer, to do work for the School of Urban Missions.
Hughes plans to begin the 100 mile run during the second week of June, taking on 15 miles per day for six days, and cruising through 10 miles on the seventh. He is even trying to work out a high-tech angle, proving his journey. “I am actually going to wear a tracking device. I am trying to get it set up online to where people can track my progress.”
Sponsors of the run have pledged anywhere from a quarter per mile to one dollar per mile. For sponsors offering 50 cents a mile or more, there is a chance to win a one year family membership to the Hot Springs YMCA.
